A rhizome is a horizontal stem of a plant that is usually found underground. They send off roots and shoots from existing nodes. This grass contains rhizomes. Some grasses also use stolons, the opposite of rhizomes. Stolons play the same role as rhizomes only they are found on top of the ground.
